Nutrition Counseling (or Medical Nutrition Therapy) is an assessment of your current nutritional status and reviews changes you can make to improve your health. It is individualized feedback to improve your relationship with food. It is teaching in a way that supports you and your dietary needs, as well as past history with food; it looks at your budget and what's possible. Many people have complex nutritional needs, many have history with disordered eating, and others may need support in other learning how to cook or shop better. Either way, I'm here to help you, the best I can, in a way that is best for you. All services are tele-health.
I am now offering group sessions! Have some friends or family that want nutrition counseling and accountability? I can accept up to 6 people per session. I tailor the session based on your needs, your questions, and your topics. We can make it as fun or serious as you want.
Is a Health Coach the Same as a Dietitian?
No. Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN's) and Registered Dietitians (RD's) attend 4 years of college at an accredited institution studying nutrition, dietetics, management, community systems, and advanced science. RD's and RDN's additionally complete >900 hours of supervised practice across community, clinical, and food service settings and pass a national credentialing exam through the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Current students pursuing this educational path now also complete a master's degree to become an RD or RDN.
Health Coaches attend a training curriculum that does not require a college or university degree. In Pennsylvania (along with many other states), a Nutritionist (or Health Coach) is not a protected title, and anyone can use these titles, including you. Courses are typically 6 weeks long. Nutritionists are not qualified to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) or Nutrition Counseling. Dietitians who practice MNT must be licensed in most states.
What is Medical Nutrition Therapy?
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is nutrition-based treatment provided by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD). MNT is a Nutrition Care Process (NCP) which includes Nutrition Assessment, Nutrition Diagnosis, Nutrition Intervention, and Nutrition Monitoring & Evaluation.
